Sarasota designer Jason Champion, a contestant on this season's Design Star on HGTV, was eliminated from the show on Sunday.
Judges blasted his design of a princess-themed bedroom for a 17-year-old girl. Specifically, they criticized him for not doing enough with the space, starting with the walls, which he kept the original pale pink. They called his hand-painted design around a window more like graffiti.
Champion, 33, was one of 11 designers selected for the show, which airs at 10 p.m. Sundays. He survived several rounds, making it in the top five.
He attributed part of his demise to the carpenter assigned to help with the bedroom project. Champion fired him a few hours into the job and subsequently fell behind.
One of the remaining four contestants will win his or her own design show on HGTV.
