Art show at Emilio's Bistro in St. Petersburg will benefit Children's Cancer Center

ST. PETERSBURG — Emilio's Bistro, Bakery & Bar will host a Colors of the Soul art exhibition from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday.

Event organizers said 25 percent of the proceeds from art sales will benefit the Children's Cancer Center in Tampa.

The restaurant, at 437 Central Ave., will provide tapas and desserts, and the first 100 patrons will receive sangria on the house. The restaurant's regular dishes will be available to order as well.

Emilio Brandl, owner of the restaurant, said he's a big supporter of local arts and is happy to host an art/charity event.

Artist Bosko Curich learned about the Children's Cancer Center through Facebook when searching for a charity.

"We take a lot of pride in helping children. We've hosted free art classes with Big Brothers and Big Sisters before, and we've also worked with the Rotary Club."

Curich and Cristina Denegri of the Image Forum in Lutz and Jenn Walden are the three local artists participating in the event.

Curich and Denegri, natives of Peru, have been in the Tampa Bay area for nine years and are looking for a space to open a gallery on Central Avenue. They hope to open in three to four months.

Thursday's event includes a contest for an original 32- by 40-inch painting, Poncianas Family by Curich. Details for the contest can be found on the Image Forum's website or Facebook page.
