Elle Woods and pink. Johnny Cash and black. Tiger Woods and red. Some celebrities have a signature color that defines them like white on rice. But we wondered — does Tampa have a Lance Armstrong who loves yellow? Does St. Pete have an Elizabeth Taylor with a violet gaze? We investigated and came up with our very own color-rific crew right here in town. — Stephanie Hayes firstname.lastname@example.org
Terry Blachek: Orange
The white paint didn't look right. It looked like a doctor's office. But everything changed when Blachek and his crew at Orange-theory Fitness fastened orange lenses over lights in the gym. "Red is a hot color, and blue is a cool color," said Blachek, 50. "Orange is an energy color. When you think about how to increase your energy or get pumped up for a workout, orange is a great color for that." Two new Orangetheory Fitness studios, one in St. Pete and one in New Tampa, will open July 14. You'll be able to sign up for interval training in group classes. And, of course, you'll use orange equipment, surrounded by orange walls and trainers wearing orange.
Miss Destructo: Blue
You can spot her across the room, 6 feet tall with a shock of blue hair. It's Miss Destructo, a.k.a. Amber Osborne. She's a 25-year-old Twitter sensation (@missdestructo) from New Port Richey with more than 17,000 followers. After trying several hair colors, she went blue as an ode to a character by French artist Enki Bilal, a tall, pale alien woman with blue hair. It stuck. Now at Head of Lettuce Media, where she does social media consulting, she's known as the Blue Cheese.
13 Ugly Men: White
Perhaps the most anticipated Tampa party of the year is technically void of color. The charitable social group's White Party draws out Tampa's elite, decked out in their pure snow finery. The men have hosted several color-themed bashes through the years, including a Red, White and Profusion lingerie party and Black and White ball. But nothing compares to the White Party, a theme also embraced by none other than rap impresario Sean "17 Different Nicknames" Combs.
Geri X: Green
It progressed from a long, green streak in a sea of brown to a full head of choppy, stylized green tresses. But the signature hair color of St. Pete's tattooed indie folk-rock queen Geri Micheva has not wavered. "I died my hair green when I was 15," she said. "I remember being pretty into the idea of looking like a tree. I don't think that will ever change. It is still green. Me without green hair would just make no sense."
Robin Adkins Vosler: Purple
The public relations executive has purple high heels and a purple Catherine Malandrino business suit. Her wedding cake was purple. The hue has even graced her websites and business cards. "I've loved purple for as long as I can remember," said Vosler, 33, the CEO of Adonai, LLC. "Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is royalty. Purple is associated with both nobility and spirituality. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color."
