Sydney White has been fired as general manager of WMNF-FM 88.5 after two years on the job.
Nancy Johnson, president of the station's board of directors, said Monday White was highly qualified for the position but not a good fit for the community station.
"He didn't meet the needs of WMNF, but we are grateful for everything he has given us the past two years,'' she said.
The station has appointed Cindy Reichard, director of finance and administration, as interim general manager until a replacement is found.
"WMNF is looking forward to a new direction,'' Johnson said. "The radio industry is changing ... and we want to continue our amazing volunteer-driven community and grow with the times.''
During an on-air interview after the firing, White said he had worked hard for the station and resented how his dismissal was handled.
A listener-supported independent radio station, WMNF has had two general managers in the past six years.
