Holiday TV specials: When to watch 'Grinch', 'It's a Wonderful Life', 'Charlie Brown' and more

Kelly Clarkson's Cautionary Christmas Music Tale, 10 p.m. Dec. 11, NBC

We love Kelly Clarkson. Not only is she the best thing to come out of American Idol, she's one of the best female singers of the past decade and she's got personality coming out of her ears. That said, we're a little confused about the premise of this new special she's starring in. NBC's description says it's based loosely on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and Clarkson's character will learn about the true meaning of Christmas. So, Kelly is Scrooge? Will there be three different ghost Kellys? When does she belt out the Christmas tunes?

A Home for the Holidays with Celine Dion, 8 p.m. Dec. 18, CBS

A Christmas special with Celine Dion? What is this, 1996? Okay, okay, Dion is an immortal musical gem fit for any decade. That's why she's hosting this 15th annual edition of the CBS special that aims to raise awareness for adoption with a collection of uplifting family stories. Dion will perform songs from her new album, Loved Me Back To Life, which not coincidentally was released at the beginning of November. Though it's a bit of a head-scratcher why she's joined by Ne-Yo, Chris Young (who?) "and others." At least it's for a good cause.
