Oscars! Oscar fashions! Oscar winners! Oscar movies! If it's your thing then you may want to sit glued to E! today as the entertainment network plays eight hours of pre-Oscar hype. Here's the best of what the small screen has to offer to those usually on the big screen.
E! Television gets it all started with back to back showings of the E! True Hollywood Story on Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) at noon and Angelina Jolie, nominated this year for Changeling (1 p.m.). Then the Countdown to the Red Carpet: The 2009 Academy Awards begins at 2 p.m. That's right, the ceremony is officially 61/2 hours away, but Ryan Seacrest and plenty of other E! talent will be on hand to give the rundown on gowns, hair, makeup and jewelry. And will they have the creepy camera that pans up and down the stars' clothing? Tune in to find out.
The TV Guide Channel will have its own Oscar coverage including the Countdown to the Academy Awards at 3 p.m. followed by Live at the Academy Awards with Lisa Rinna and Joey Fatone at 6 p.m. If you like awkward silences, crazy questions and outlandish statements from hosts, this is the one to watch.
ABC kicks off its Oscar coverage with the annual Barbara Walters Special at 7 p.m. This year, she'll be trolling for tears from Oscar nominees Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) and Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Oscar host Hugh Jackman and ubiquitous teen idols the Jonas Brothers.
Then at 8 p.m. ABC will have the 2009 Oscars Red Carpet Show. Host Tim Gunn (Project Runway) has already said he would love to meet Meryl Streep (nominated for Doubt) — and have her explain her fashion (non)sense. Good Morning America's Robin Roberts will serve as co-host.
Finally, the 2009 Academy Awards begin at 8:30 p.m. on ABC. Will Hugh Jackman, a.k.a. People's Sexiest Man Alive, finally be the host who can make everyone stop asking for Billy Crystal's return?
If you like great movies but maybe not the current Oscar crop, Turner Classic Movies is showing several Oscar winners and nominees today. Look for Sunset Boulevard (three Oscar wins) at 4 p.m., The Bad and the Beautiful (five wins) at 6 p.m. and Stage Door (four nominations) at 8 p.m.
American Movie Classics is presenting its own Oscar lineup with The Longest Day (two wins) at 12:45 p.m., Tora Tora Tora (one win) at 4:45 p.m. and Patton (seven wins) at 8 p.m.
Had enough of the Oscars? No way! Get the lowdown on the fashions on the Academy Awards Fashion Wrap with Rinna at 8 p.m. Monday on the TV Guide Channel. Not to be outdone, E! will have its own fashion wrap, Fashion Police: The 2009 Academy Awards at 10 p.m. Monday.
