On TV this week

MONDAY

Great American Road Trip, 8 p.m., NBC The families that remain travel to Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas to see buffalo and grill burgers. They pretty much summed up my entire childhood there.

Torchwood: Children of Earth, 9 p.m., BBC America A five-part miniseries opens tonight as every kid in the world stops in his or her tracks to announce, "We are coming." That's not half as scary as when they say, "Where's our allowance?"

SERIES PREMIERE Dating in the Dark, 10 p.m., ABC Once again, reality TV tries to act high-minded by sticking three men and three women in a house together, but only letting them interact in a room with no lights so they can't see each other. Will true love come out of all this? Only if the people aren't ugly when the lights come on.

TUESDAY

10 Things I Hate About You, 8 p.m., ABC Family Bianca needs Cameron's help to get into a party. Why not just use the fake ID Kat is trying to get?

SERIES PREMIERE Ruby & the Rockits, 8:30 p.m., ABC Family David Cassidy stars in what sounds like a retread of Full House, if it was from Uncle Jessie's point of view.

SEASON FINALE NYC Prep, 9 p.m., Bravo Please tell us not enough of you watched this swill to get it renewed and inflate these kids' egos even more ...

WEDNESDAY

Black in America, 8 p.m., CNN The first in this two-part follow-up to last years doc has Soledad O'Brien going to South Africa to examine poverty. Um, you don't have to go to South Africa — ain't CNN based in Atlanta?

Over a Barrel: The Truth About Oil, 10 p.m., ABC Charles Gibson looks at the secrets of the oil business. It will be especially amazing when he reveals oil companies have been sitting on an electric car that gets 4,000 miles per charge since the 1950s.

The Philanthropist, 10 p.m., NBC Teddy tells his ex-wife about his business in Kosovo, probably in the hopes that she'll move there.

THURSDAY

Serenity, 6:30 p.m., SyFy It still mystifies us as to how they could make a movie for a series that only lasted 14 episodes. Still, this beats other reruns.

16 and Pregnant, 10 p.m., MTV Dr. Drew sits all six teenage mothers featured in Season 1 down to talk about how they could make such an everlasting impact on their futures. Was there no future in playing for the volleyball team?

FRIDAY

SEASON FINALE The Chopping Block, 8 p.m., NBC Cooking show blah blah last two couples blah blah blah cook the meal of their lives to become rich and famous. We've seen that one before.

Torchwood: Children of Earth, 9 p.m., BBC America Have you been watching this all week instead of various other reruns? Then you won't mind explaining every minute detail to us during the show, because we didn't watch any of the previous four parts.
