On TV this week

SERIES PREMIERE Make It or Break It, 9 p.m., ABC Family As if teenagers didn't have enough to bicker over in high school, try throwing in competing at an elite gymnastics center, as well. If any of the characters make it out alive, we'll be impressed.

Iran and the West, 9 p.m., NatGeo Quit eating raw cookie dough and watching reality TV long enough for politicians and statesmen explain to you why this thing in Iran is important.

Make 'em Laugh: The Funny Business of America, 10 p.m., PBS A six-part miniseries examines themes in American comedy. Does that include all the flatulence jokes?

SERIES PREMIERE The Superstars, 8 p.m., ABC Watch athletes you forgot about and celebrities you've never heard of prove time and again that they're in much better shape than you.

SEASON PREMIERE America's Got Talent, 9 p.m., NBC All we want to know is, can we quit focusing on David Hasselhoff's alcoholism long enough to find our very own Susan Boyle? And let her win this time, mmmkay?

SEASON PREMIERE The Cleaner, 10 p.m., A&E Speaking of alcoholism, you know what will get William to clean up his act? A guest shot from Whoopi Goldberg.

SERIES PREMIERE NYC Prep, 10 p.m., Bravo It's like Gossip Girl, but a reality show. Full of kids who think they're in Gossip Girl.

CIA Secret Experiments, 8 p.m., NatGeo Still trust your government? Then sit back and learn about how the CIA exposed people to biological agents, hallucinogenic drugs and psychological techniques aimed at mastering mind control.

SEASON PREMIERE The Real World, 10 p.m., MTV This time it's Cancun. What's real about that? Try The Real World: Brandon — that's a ratings winner right there!

SERIES PREMIERE The Philanthropist, 10 p.m., NBC A rich guy becomes a do-gooder after saving a boy during a hurricane. So, like Iron Man without the terrorists?

2009 NBA Draft, 7:30 p.m., ESPN Are they taking kids right out of preschool yet?

The Fashion Show, 10 p.m., Bravo The contestants are tested on their knowledge of fashion designers, then have design pieces based on an icon's work. And no, they can't all use those Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses that are so popular these days.

SEASON PREMIERE Penn & Teller: Bulls … !, 10 p.m., Showtime Further disproving our long-held notion that Penn & Teller are funny.

Virtuality, 8 p.m., Fox We had no idea networks still funded made-for-TV movies. This one is about people on a 10-year mission to save Earth from environmental disaster. So it's a mission to remove all the Earthlings from the planet, then?

Dog Whisperer, 8 p.m., NatGeo More than 3,000 people and their troubled pets audition for a shot at a session with Cesar Millan. If they can stand in line that long, then their behavioral problems must not be that bad.
