Summer Olympics, 7:30 p.m., NBC Unless the U.K. imported about 200,000 more citizens, London is gonna have a hard time beating Beijing for pure spectacle in tonight's opening ceremonies.
Lost Girl, 10 p.m., SyFy Backpackers start aging and dying overnight. Well, you try living on gorp for years and see how well you're doing.
Common Law, 10 p.m., USA Wes and Travis bring in their former mentors to consult on a murder case. The mentors probably end up fighting, too.
SEASON PREMIERE John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, 11 p.m., Comedy Central The first of six new episodes showcases just how John Oliver's Daily Show shtick doesn't translate to the stage as well as you'd think it would.
SATURDAY
The Philadelphia Experiment, 9 p.m., Syfy Hard to believe Syfy could do any worse than the 1984 original starring Michael Pare. Apparently this time Malcolm McDowell will be involved in trying to make a Navy ship disappear.
The Nerdist: A Tribute to Toys and Games, 10 p.m., BBC America A couple of geeks have a lot of nerdy stuff. Why didn't Chris Hardwick just call us?
SUNDAY
SERIES PREMIERE Oprah's Lifeclass, 10 p.m., OWN Oprah and pal Iyanla Vanzant tell people what to do with themselves. Better skip that whole part about giving up the syndicated hit talk show to run a network everyone's just sure to like, though.
SEASON PREMIERE Hillbilly Handfishin', 8 p.m., Animal Planet Now, the producers who got a show about hillbillies doing hillbilly stuff on the air and renewed for another season, they're the ones you should be listening to.
