On TV this weekend
The 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee, 8 p.m., ABC Time for the one instance of the year you pretend to care about people being smart by rooting for kids spelling words you can't even pronounce.
Past Life, 8 p.m., Fox Sure, this show is canceled, but that's no excuse to not air the final few episodes. It's not like they have anything new to show you on the networks right now.
SEASON PREMIERE Whale Wars, 9 p.m., Animal Planet We still have a hard time believing this isn't a reality show competing with The Biggest Loser.
Party Down, 10 p.m., Starz Kristen Bell guest stars as Henry's girlfriend. No wonder Casey feels outclassed.
Three Rivers, 8 p.m., CBS A woman must have a heart transplant in order to save her unborn child. Usually these shows beat us over the head that having surgery while pregnant isn't the best idea.
Freshman Father, 9 p.m., Hallmark Yeah, it's a Hallmark Original about a Harvard freshman who's also a dad. What else are you gonna watch? This and Three Rivers are practically the only new things on tonight.
The Making of Wizarding World of Harry Potter, 7 p.m., NBC In case you want to spoil your trip to take the kids to Islands of Adventure, here's a behind-the-scenes commercial that'll make you feel like you're there. Without spending $80 a ticket, that is.
2010 MTV Movie Awards, 9 p.m., MTV Aziz Ansari's hosting gig may be the only thing that keeps this mildly watchable. It sure won't be watching New Moon win all five of its nominated categories, which apparently include Most Overhyped by Repressed Teenage Girls.
SEASON PREMIERE Drop Dead Diva, 9 p.m., Lifetime Jane dreams she's dancing for Paula Abdul. Silly Jane, Paula has no idea you're even in the room.
SEASON PREMIERE Kate Plus 8, 9 p.m., TLC Thinking people actually want to see Ms. Gosselin ruin her kids without fighting with her husband is the worst idea since giving BP permission to drill.
