Syesha Mercado didn't get the boot from American Idol Wednesday night, but she's still headed home.
Friday she's doing the Idol media extravaganza where she'll be filmed by Fox receiving a burst of adulation from hometown fans, doing radio and TV appearances, visiting her Sarasota high school alma mater and performing the National Anthem at tonight's Rays-Angels game.
Longtime Idol fans will recall the show airs a segment close to the season's end that's all about their final three. Her schedule is dizzying. (Is it any wonder that Jason Castro seemed relieved to get the boot Wednesday, and the Davids seemed just as worn out?)
Because the closest Fox affiliate to Mercado's Sarasota hometown is Tampa's WTVT-Ch. 13, she'll spend a fair amount of time in Tampa. Her day:
6:45 a.m.: Clear Channel radio stations including WFLZ-FM 93.3 and WMTX-FM 100.7.
8: WTVT's Good Day Tampa Bay.
10:30: Downtown Bradenton appearance between City Hall and the Manatee River.
11:15: Autograph session at the AT&T store at 4708 Cortez Road, Bradenton.
12:30 p.m. or thereabouts: At her alma mater, Booker High School in Sarasota, for a mini-parade and private concert.
2:45: She's scheduled to hop aboard WTVT's SkyFox helicopter for a ride to the Ringling Museum where she'll present another short concert for the public.
6:30: Heading to St. Petersburg, where she'll sing the National Anthem at the Tropicana Field before the Rays game against the Los Angeles Angels. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. and tickets start at $9 at 1-888-326-7297. raysbaseball.com.
