MONDAY

SEASON PREMIERE Mom, 8:30 p.m., CBS

Season 2 of this solid sitcom kicks off with an episode titled "Hepatitis and Lemon Zest." Please note that Allison Janney just won an Emmy for her role as Bonnie. We're sure she has nothing to do with the episode titles.

TUESDAY

SERIES PREMIERE Selfie, 8 p.m., ABC

We know, we know: The name is horrible. Move past that and try to embrace the satire on display in creator-producer Emily Kapnek's (Suburgatory) new show. It's a modern take on My Fair Lady, with Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as a vapid social media fiend and John Cho as the marketer who tries to remake her image.

New Girl, 9 p.m., Fox

Rob Reiner returns as Jess' father and brings along a new girlfriend, guest star Kaitlin Olson from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Chopped, 10 p.m., Food

This new episode employs the most shameful of all cooking-show gimmicks: cute kids! Four youngsters in 4th and 5th grades are the chefs, working with baskets containing kid-friendly ingredients like cotton candy, pizza dough and brownie mix.

WEDNESDAY

Red Band Society, 9 p.m., Fox

Jordi gets an expected visitor who causes havoc; and Kara and Nurse Jackson (Octavia Spencer) continue to, er, not get along. Wilson Cruz (Rickie!) from My So-Called Life guest stars, officially making this the best teen show on right now.

THURSDAY

Scandal, 9 p.m., ABC

Can we just change this show's name to Mellie and be done with it? The despondent, oft-inebriated, hilarious first lady has become the best thing about the show.

SERIES PREMIERE Gracepoint, 9 p.m., Fox

This is a remake of the popular British drama Broadchurch, about a young boy who's found murdered in a small town, and when we say "remake" we mean "the exact same show." At least for the first few episodes. Broadchurch fans, prepare for major deja vu; everyone else, prepare to be gripped by the big mystery.

SERIES PREMIERE Bad Judge, 9 p.m., NBC

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are among the executive producers of this new comedy starring Kate Walsh (Private Practice) as a judge, which makes it worth tuning in to at least once.

SERIES PREMIERE A to Z, 9:30 p.m., NBC

A romantic comedy that's a little too cutesy and not nearly funny enough, A to Z at least stars the ridiculously charming Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother) and Ben Feldman (Mad Men) as the romantically fated duo.

Parenthood, 10 p.m., NBC

Zeek has a major health concern to consider, and we can't even begin to handle what that means, considering Parenthood creator Jason Katims has teased this season will deal with "mortality."

SUNDAY

SERIES PREMIERE Mulaney, 9:30 p.m., Fox

This new throwback sitcom (complete with live audience!) from young standup comedian John Mulaney brings some live action to Fox's cartoon-filled Sundays (it follows Family Guy). Check it out, particularly if you're a fan of Mulaney's absurdist sense of humor.
