Watch this: TV week of July 29

MONDAY

The Fosters, 9 p.m., ABC FAMILY

ABC Family is having a bit of a moment right now. You might not think to go to the channel for quality programming, but it's everywhere on the network, from the sublime Switched at Birth to the recently canceled (sniff) Bunheads. The Fosters is the latest ABC Family show to catch our attention, because it holds a unique place on TV right now. And that's not just because it follows an interracial lesbian couple, Stef and Sherri, who are raising both biological and foster children together. It's because, like Switched at Birth and Bunheads, the characters are kind, decent and pleasant to watch. Sure, the show can be a little too earnest at times, but we love it as a respite from zombies and murderers.

TUESDAY

Suits, 10 p.m., USA

Before you dismiss this as another silly USA show, watch it. We bet you'll be surprised how smart, sexy and substantial it is. Summer programming at its finest.

SEASON PREMIERE Who Do You Think You Are?, 9 p.m., TLC

This show that used to air on NBC about celebrities looking into their genealogy is resurrected on TLC for a fourth season. Christina Applegate is the first guest. Maybe they could think about a name change, too. Weirdly aggressive, no?

WEDNESDAY

VH1 Do Something Awards, 8 p.m., VH1

Patrick Dempsey, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Osbourne are honored for their good deeds. Oh, and some normal people get recognized, too, including a woman who founded a microgrant program to fund projects in Uganda and Rwanda. Top that, McDreamy!

Best Daym Takeout, 10 p.m., TRAVEL

YouTube "star" Daymon Patterson inspires the awkwardly spelled title for this show, in which Patterson travels the country in search of the best take-out food. He starts in Chicago, where he samples pizza, a hot dog and a roast beef sandwich. Because if there's one thing this country needs, it's suggestions for more greasy things to eat from a box.

FRIDAY

America's Next Top Model, CW, 8 p.m.

It's the 20th (!) season of this show, and yet Tyra Banks hasn't aged a day. It's about time they shook things up over at ANTM, so this year they're letting male models compete against the ladies. Their first challenge: A pose-off on the streets of Hollywood.

SATURDAY

Too Cute!, 9 p.m., ANIMAL PLANET

Sometimes you just need to spend the weekend on the couch watching a litter of 12 golden doodle puppies scamper around your TV screen, am I right?
