New movies this week

Drag Me To Hell

The gist: Really, when you think about it, is cursing someone to a literal, living hell proper punishment for taking your home away after you didn't pay the mortgage for several months? It seems like you should be cursing yourself. She must have been an investor. PG-13

Starring: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Jessica Lucas, David Paymer and Dileep Rao.

The buzz: Director Sam Raimi takes horror movies to school. "The movie is a goofy, ridiculous blast, and yet Raimi means business: Even the precociously cute kitty isn't safe in this one," the Miami Herald says.

Up

The gist: Remember that cutesy Pixar joint about the crotchety, wizened character and the precocious, childlike character and the talking animal and the improbable plot device? Oh, that was golden. G

Starring: Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, John Ratzenberger, Delroy Lindo and Jordan Nagai.

The buzz: Wow, who knew Pixar movies were good? "A captivating odd-couple adventure that becomes funnier and more exciting as it flies along," Variety says.
