Monday was a very good day for director Kathryn Bigelow and her movie The Hurt Locker. The Iraq war drama, starring Jeremy Renner as an explosives expert who loves his job too much for anyone's comfort, was named 2009's best movie by the New York Film Critics Circle and Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
Bigelow was also named best director by each group.
Crazy Heart and District 9 also snagged two awards each from New York critics while Fantastic Mr. Fox won a pair of honors from critics in L.A. Find a complete list of winners at blogs.tampabay.com/movies.
The critics' awards are among the prizes leading to the Academy Awards on March 7. Oscar nominations will be announced Feb. 2.
