Martial arts icons Jackie Chan and Jet Li team up for the first time in The Forbidden Kingdom (PG-13), which wasn't screened by a St. Petersburg Times critic.
Chan and Li play fantasy world tour guides for an American teen named Jason (Michael Angarano), who discovers a charmed artifact: the favorite weapon of the legendary Monkey King. The kung fu movie buff takes a time trip back to ancient China, hoping to free the Monkey King from imprisonment in stone.
Both Chan and Li still have fuel in their tanks, even if they need to hitch a ride on stuntmen now and then. Chan's comedic talents are still frisky; he plays a drunken master to Li's silent but deadly warrior. The Forbidden Kingdom may be just what young viewers need with risque comedies and watered-down horror crowding theater screens.
