Don’t look back, Leo, something may be gaining on you in Shutter Island. Or maybe it’s just your own insane paranoia?

New movies this week

Shutter Island

The gist: Martin Scorsese's latest was delayed a few months so Paramount could drop this psychological thriller about a U.S. marshal investigating an insane-asylum escape to winter, when it would have less competition. Hey, it worked for Avatar. R

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson and Max von Sydow.

The buzz: Even we can tell from the trailers that DiCaprio likely is just a patient in the asylum and is imagining the whole thing. Don't write us angry e-mails if that turns out to be true. "Even when it's clear Scorsese has decided to employ fakery and allow it to be obvious, it's done with elegance and beauty," Entertainment Weekly says.

Seraphine

The gist: A look at the life of French painter Seraphine de Senlis, who sounds just eccentric enough for us to go to Google right now. Not rated

Starring: Yolande Moreau, Ulrich Tukur, Anne Bennent, Genevieve Mnich and Nico Rogner.

The buzz: This 2008 offering is coming to Tampa Theatre, so go get some culture. "Moreau's performance is perfectly calibrated, a mix of madness and rapture, simplicity and heightened perception, humility and artistic arrogance," the San Francisco Chronicle says. "Watching Moreau in the painting scenes is like watching Harpo Marx play the harp."
