New movies this week
Angels & Demons
The gist: Robert Langdon returns from The Da Vinci Code and threatens to blow up the pope with an anti-matter bomb. Or Something. Like you haven't seen the trailer. PG-13
Starring: Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zurer, Stellan Skarsgard, Pierfrancesco Favino, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Armin Mueller-Stahl.
The buzz: Just like the books, you either find it genius or just so much tripe. "A shapely, stylish, white-knuckle horror-thriller that hits its marks with blood and thunder. It stinks to heaven, too, but it isn't lame. The streets of Rome haven't run this red since the Inquisition," New York Magazine says.
The gist: Robert Pattinson shows he's not in the Twilight of his career by playing a young Salvador Dali chasing another man. There's hope for you yet, Robert. R
Starring: Pattinson, Javier Beltrán, Matthew McNulty, Marina Gatell and Arly Jover.
The buzz: Well-made, but not an award-winner. "A trifling historical fantasy, gossip wrapped in gossamer, beautiful to watch but it takes only a light wind to leave the story in tatters," the L.A. Times says.
