CARROLLWOOD — A Christian rapper says he was fired last week from a construction staffing firm after a news article about his past circulated through the office.
"I've never been late, I've never missed a day," said Edwin Camacho, 30, who raps under the name Godsent the General. "Both my work evaluations have been nothing but praises."
Camacho worked as a recruiter for Construct Corps LLC, 3104 N Armenia Ave. He said he started in October. The article featured details of Camacho's past as a drug dealer, his prison time and his transition to Christianity and appeared on tampabay.com on June 25 and in the St. Petersburg Times on June 27.
"On my application, where it said are you a felon, I said 'yes,' " Camacho said. "They hired me knowing my history." But he believes it's why they fired him.
"That's not something I would like to discuss with you," said Joyce Taylor, the manager who Camacho says let him go. Taylor declined to comment further.
According to Camacho, Taylor told him, "this is the bottom line. It was either your job or mine.''

Lucy - We are only hearing his side, yes maybe everyone deserse a chance, but an employer does not have to give one, get him a job where you work, or let him date your daughter. If he was a blackman Al shrpton would be there for him.

Bad things happen to good people and it's all part of God's plan. God has something bigger and better planned for you. Keep strong in your faith. Pray for better things to come. We will pray for you too.

This is really sad. If he did in fact have excellent reviews, he should not have been let go due to an article about his past. Everyone deserves a chance to prove they have changed. If they repeat, then they should be gone.

Hmmmm...
I find it hard to believe there was no reason given for the dismissal. "It was ether you or me kid", doesn't quite sound like the whole story here. I can't help but wonder what was written on the termination paper.

That is terrible. He was upfront and honest from the get go and he still was fired? God really has his hand on this fellow. All things work together for good for those who love Jesus and that are called according to his purpose.

They fired him not for his past, but because of his future! Now that he is a Christian, (follower of Christ), he's being persecuted, time to call Christian Law Association....
