Rebekah Pulley and the Reluctant Prophets

With Acho Brother, Ronny Elliott, Steve Connelly and the Lesser Gods, Venus In Furs

FRIDAY 8 p.m. Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa. $10-$13. (813) 971-0666.

Prepare your heartstrings for tuggin' and your feet for tappin' when Rebekah Pulley unveils her newest disc, Back to Boogaloo, a sensitive yet sassy blend of folk rock, soul, Americana, alt-country and more. "We could all use some magic" sings the prolific St. Pete songstress. Pulley's sweet, sometimes jazzy vocals mix with pretty keys, pedal steel and Dobro for a bit of Joni Mitchell-meets-Ray LaMontagne experience. Ronny Elliot joins in on Tumbleweed, a calming ditty written during gridlock on the Howard Frankland. Pulley also performs in her "alter ego" act Venus In Furs, an all-female tribute to the Velvet Underground.

Yellowman

FRIDAY 7 p.m. Jannus Landing, 16 Second St. N, St. Petersburg. $12-$15. (727) 895-3045.

Snarky albino rhymer Yellowman rose to sex-symbol status and dancehall stardom in the early '80s. And while his sexually explicit lyrics received criticism from Jamaicans (including Peter Tosh), his style of "toasting" (the reggae version of rapping) had major influence on artists at home and away. Hits Nobody Move and Zungguzungguguzungguzeng have been sampled by Sublime, 2Pac and KRS One. Later, after struggling with life-threatening jaw cancer, Yellowman shifted his focus to more spiritually and socially conscious tunes.

Trivium

With 36 Crazyfists, All That Remains, the Human Abstract

WEDNESDAY 6 p.m. Jannus Landing, 16 Second St. N, St. Petersburg. $17-$20. (727) 895-3045.

Altamonte Springs quartet Trivium brings the pain and power toms with melodic metalcore, thrash and prog rock. The band formed in 2000 when members got together to cover Metallica's For Whom the Bell Tolls for their high school's battle of the bands competition. In 2006, tight and technical, The Crusade sold more than 32,000 copies in its first week. And while Metallica's influence continues to show, the group also incorporates riffs right for fans of Machine Head and Killswitch Engage.

Chris Isaak

With Lisa Loeb

WEDNESDAY 8 p.m. Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. $39.50-$75. (727) 791-7400.

The McDreamy of lovelorn rockabilly hit big in the early '90s with his super-sexy Wicked Game. But just as important as the great hair and steamy video, Chris Isaak brought his stylized take on '50s and '60s rock 'n' roll to an era of NKOTB and Vanilla Ice. A hopeless romantic, Isaak showed adoration for artists like Roy Orbison, Duane Eddy and Elvis Presley (Cryin', Lie to Me). Girl-next-door Lisa Loeb has a catalog full of endearing pop songs, though she's remembered most for strolling through her apartment in those tortoiseshell glasses on Stay (I Missed You).

DJ Clips Benefit

Featuring Black Reign, Larcen, the Villanz, Rahim Samad, Jer Z, Sandman, Royce, Kayess, Champion, Blenda, Young Deacon

MONDAY 9 p.m. Crowbar, 1812 N 17th St., Ybor City. $5-$10. (813) 241-8600.

Some of Tampa's finest hip-hop artists gather to celebrate the life of fellow DJ and friend Clips, who died late last year. Clips had a knack for mashups, pairing, say, a Robin Thicke with a Gorilla Zoe, and keeping an eclectic yet flowing groove.

The Beauvilles CD release party

With Mouse Fire, Lush Progress, DJn8

THURSDAY 9 p.m. Crowbar, 1812 N 17th St., Ybor City. $10. (813) 241-8600.

On new disc Whispering Sin, restless and unpredictable singer-guitarist Shawn Beauville only furthers the idea that he's Tampa Bay's most intriguing frontman. His meaty chops (that applies to both his vocal range and his sideburns), candid lyrics, taste for scotch and Jack White-ish fashions pair with heavy guitars and hints of psychedelia for a dark yet dapper ride. Watch the band rock out against some tough Russians in its thrilling video for Snow. The Drive By Truckers personally requested the Beauvilles open at their upcoming South Florida gig.
