Like most rational people, I spend great chunks of the day obsessing over my iPod. ("Hey, Sean, have you fed the baby yet?" "Baby?! Can't you see I'm working, woman? What, you think this Arbor Day playlist is gonna finish itself?") I add songs, subtract songs, grade songs. Lately I've been intensely focused on weeding out cuts that have become ingrained in my DNA: Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Gary Numan, the usual. I don't need to hear these bands anymore. They are omnipresent. One of the biggest casualties from the iPod has been the Eagles. Bye, Life in the Fast Lane. Adios, Witchy Woman. It's not that these are bad songs; they're great ones, road-trip classics. But I've been listening to this stuff for three decades now, and frankly, I'd be fine if I never heard them again. If it makes you feel any better, Eagles fans, Sweet Home Alabama got the boot, too.

(Are you with me so far?)

On a very busy concert day — John Legend, Fall Out Boy and Rihanna are also in town tonight — the Eagles will rock the largest venue we have: the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. And although I won't be there, I can pretty much guarantee a two-hour-plus sing-along, with Don Henley, Glenn Frey (above) and the other band members cranking out both country-rock from new album Long Road Out of Eden and all those awesome oldies I can no longer stand.

The Eagles perform at 8 tonight at the St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa. $47.75-$187.75. (813) 301-2500; stpetetimesforum.org.
