Damon Fowler's Skipperdome shows are always a blast, but his gig Friday will offer a little more: It's a CD release party for Sugar Shack, the Brandon native's national debut. The disc came out Tuesday on Blind Pig Records, the label that has issued recordings by Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt and Muddy Waters.
On Sugar Shack, Fowler leads his potent power trio through a collection of juke joint rockers, greasy Delta blues and honky-tonk, all of it teeming with lived-in authenticity. The 29-year-old former guitar wunderkind has evolved into an accomplished vocalist and master of several modes of American music, all of which will be at his disposal at Skipper's.
The Damon Fowler Group performs at 8 p.m. Friday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and are available at Skipper's or online at wmnf.org. (813) 971-0666; skipperssmokehouse.com.
