Gary Sinise, Lt. Dan Band to perform free concert at St. Pete's Sunscreen Film Festival

Kevin Costner and Modern West have performed in Tampa Bay. So have Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts. Gary Sinise must have seen those shows and thought: Why not me?

So on April 20, Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will perform a free concert at Williams Park in downtown St. Petersburg as part of the seventh annual Sunscreen Film Festival, held April 19-22 in and around downtown St. Pete.

Named, obviously, for for the actor's Oscar-nominated role in Forrest Gump, the Lt. Dan Band performs covers of classic rock and funk tunes as well as modern hits by acts as diverse as Kelly Clarkson, Zac Brown Band, Evanescence and Beyonce. (Oh, to hear Gary Sinise sing Single Ladies...)

The group regularly plays benefits for active duty military, and recently performed for troops in Kuwait. They're also the subject of a documentary, Lt. Dan Band: For The Common Good.

Though the concert is free — and will also feature an appearance by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleaders — you can purchase VIP tickets which include front-row access plus admission to an after party at Push Ultra Lounge. Go to sunscreenfilmfestival.com for ticket information.
