Lifehouse has performed all over the world since breaking onto the scene 10 years ago with the single Hanging by a Moment. But there's still one gig the foursome have yet to play: a cruise.

Next week, after Tuesday's concert at the Ritz Ybor, the foursome will set sail with VH1's Best Cruise Ever. It casts off from Tampa to Grand Cayman. The rockfest at sea will feature a dozen other musical acts. 3 Doors Down will host.

"We'd love to do some collaborating. We'll see what happens," said Lifehouse bassist Bryce Soderberg. "Maybe we'll have a couple of drinks one night and kick off an acoustic jam in one of the bars."

Soderberg called tbt* from his hotel room in Providence, R.I., where the band is on tour with Daughtry. Here's more of the conversation.

You're playing in Tampa on April 13. Then the cruise departs from Tampa on the 15th. What will you be doing between the 13th and the 15th?

Wow, I don't know. What should we do?

What are you into? Do you like art?

I love art.

We have a new art museum. I also read something about the band being big hockey fans, but there's actually no hockey game that day.

My friend Matt Pettinger (used to play) for the Tampa Bay Lightning. ... Last time we came down there, he brought us to a Lightning game.

Have you ever played on a cruise before?

You know what? I've never been on a cruise before, personally.

Why do you think a rock concert is a good fit for a cruise?

This whole rock-band cruise thing, it seems like there's a lot coming out everywhere. John Mayer is doing it and stuff. I just think it would be a lot of fun. We get to go on a boat, and our fans are out there, and we're going to just relax, have a good vacation and play some rock music. It just sounds like fun. Why not?

Well, because you're going to be stuck on a boat with fans. And not just any fans.

Yeah. Fans who would pay hundreds of dollars to be stuck on a boat with you. Will that be overwhelming?

I don't think so. We have really cool fans. Personally, I think they're all really polite and they don't really overstep their boundaries so far. I think we'll have our own privacy on that boat, too. So we'll be fine.

Your 30th birthday is a few days before the cruise sets sail. Will you celebrate on the boat?

I thought about that. Yeah! I actually turn 30 in Detroit. So we're going to be in Detroit, and we're playing a huge arena where the Detroit Red Wings play, so that'll be fun. Then we'll be kicking off on the cruise. Yeah, I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of celebrating.

This trip is called the Best Cruise Ever. Who would be on your Best Cruise Ever?

We'd have to go back in time and go out with the Beatles and Led Zeppelin and the Who in their prime.

Simon Cowell says mediocre music is something you'd hear on a cruise ship. How do feel about now performing on a cruise ship?

I know what he's talking about when it comes to cruises. There's the lounge band that plays on the cruise. But this ain't gonna be no loungin'. We're going to be rockin'. But speaking of American Idol, my friend Didi Benami is actually one of the contestants on American Idol. (Benami was voted off last week.)

Which of your band members would make the best bunkmate?

Bunkmate? You have no idea how small those bunks are. We'd have to get a girl in our band for me to have a bunkmate.

You have two chances to catch the band next week:
