Age: 54
With the orchestra since: 1984
Where you are originally from: Atlanta
Age I started studying my instrument: 11 (started on trumpet at age 8)
If I weren't doing this, I'd be: making beer
Favorite date night place to eat out: I love Bern's for steak and wine. (What's a date?)
Last book I read was: A Devil to Play by Jasper Rees
Rays, Bucs or Lightning? Rays
Dream vacation: around the world on a ship
Career path if I hadn't chosen music: probably architecture
Hobbies and interests: I run, bicycle, fish, ski, golf and make and drink beer.
Some little-known, yet interesting fact about you: I have four older brothers and my dad had 12 brothers and sisters.
Funniest concert moment: The horn section was playing the Schumann Konzertstuck in an unnamed location outside Tampa Bay, and we had to stand on tables in front because the stage was very small. During a rest in the middle of the piece, I was emptying water from my slide and it dropped. Everything went into slow motion and for some reason the slide bounced one time and came straight back up into my hand. I put it back in my horn and didn't miss a beat.
The question you're asked most often about your instrument: Is the orchestra your only job? No, I have about three part-time jobs.
