A former Miss Florida and a singer billed as the No. 1 swing singer of Australia will be featured in Richey Community Orchestra's first concert of the 2010-2011 season at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The show is called "Sizzlin' '70s."
"The decade of the 1970s had an exciting variety of music, from rock to pop to disco," said publicist Denise Isaacson.
Carolyn Cline, the former Miss Florida, will sing Donna Summer's hit, Last Dance, the feminist anthem I Will Survive, Proud Mary, the theme from the movie Love Story and the John Denver classic, Take Me Home, Country Roads.
Ms. Cline has played major hotels and clubs in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, New Orleans and abroad in Tokyo, Hong Kong and other major cities.
Australian Marty Thompson sings with major big bands, including the BBC Big Band. His program with RCO includes Neil Diamond's Cracklin' Rosie, Billy Joel's Just the Way You Are and Jim Croce's Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.
Ms. Cline and Thompson will duet in Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ole Oak Tree, You Are the Sunshine of My Life and the Simon and Garfunkel favorite, Bridge Over Troubled Water.
The orchestra will perform themes from '70s movies Rocky, Grease, Superman, Star Wars and The Godfather.
The 50-piece orchestra has amateur and professional members. Future concerts at River Ridge are "Shades of Blue" with trumpeter Charly Raymond and pianist Bobby Pace at 3 p.m. Feb. 13; "I Love New York" with singers Susan Falcone and Scott Greenberg on March 20; and "Hooray for Hollywood!" with singers Randi Olsen and Jason Yungmann on April 17. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door.
The orchestra also will do two dinner shows at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave., New Port Richey. Tickets cost $30, reservations required. Doors open at 1 p.m. for cash bar, dinner at 1:30 p.m., show at 3 p.m.
"Holly Jolly Christmas," featuring jazz singer Katt Hefner is Dec. 12. "Mother's Day Dinner Concert," featuring Busch Gardens performer and circus ringmaster John Wilson, is May 8.
