The lovable wiseguys of Weezer wrote bare-boned and pleasantly awkward pop-rock disc The Blue Album in the mid '90s, encouraging neighborhood groups in grungy garages everywhere that they had a chance. Harvard man and singer Rivers Cuomo is now in his early 40s (weird, right?), but he's still writing tunes as if he were roaming the campus. Before Weezer starts on the full-album tour dates, they'll perform an array of hits, like the lean, mean My Name Is Jonas and Undone — The Sweater Song, in St. Petersburg.

On 2012's After Hours, the Eagles' Glenn Frey is less the slow-rolling desperado or the country-rockin' keeper of the old West, and more the sentimentalist who grew up on Tony Bennett and Nat King Cole. The collection includes covers of love standards For Sentimental Reasons and My Buddy. Frey will pepper these tunes in with his Eagles hits (Lyin' Eyes, New Kid in Town) and '80s-rich solo stuff (Smuggler's Blues, The Heat Is On) Saturday during his inaugural Ruth Eckerd set.

Drug problems and arrests have kept soulful, R&B-style singer Jonny Craig in and out of Dance Gavin Dance over the years. While it lasted, DGD had a pretty unique thing going — imagine a blue-eyed, foul-mouthed Otis Redding/Michael Jackson combo fronting a hard-core band. But with Craig out again, local fans might be comforted that Tilian Pearson will be taking over. Pearson is formerly of Clearwater's proggish math-rock act Tides of Man, one of the few local bands to attain a real national identity in the past decade. His dizzying, nasal wail should bring DGD closer to The Dear Hunter or Circa Survive territory.

On the surface, Jacksonville-bred Yellowcard might seem like your run of the mill pop-punk band rocking out to story lines you're likely to encounter during CW network programming. But the quintet has a secret weapon in talented violinist Sean Mackin. Latest disc Southern Air debuted at No. 10 on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart.

At its height several years ago, Tampa trio Candy Bars captured the attention of National Public Radio, which cited the band as evidence of a "renaissance" for indie music. Ryan Fujiki-Hastings, the Candy Bars' drummer who co-wrote many of the group's songs, died in September in a motorcycle crash, leaving behind a wife and a young daughter. All of the donations from this show will go directly to support the family.

When emo-punk was peaking in the early '00s, the addicts for the dramatic in Taking Back Sunday were climbing the mountaintop with gold debut Tell All Your Friends. Just then, the band imploded as guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left to start Straylight Run. After 10 years, the original cast has reunited to play the entire album, a melodic, slightly paranoid post-hard-core collection that hurts so good. Hand claps, harmonies and heartache will be in full supply.
