Strindberg's plays are full of symbolism and psychological imagery, none more so than A Dream Play. Here's how the Swedish playwright (1849-1912) described his style: "Imagination spins and weaves new patterns: a mixture of memories, experiences, unfettered fancies, absurdities and improvisation.''

Caryl Churchill, the outstanding British dramatist and author of Top Girls, Cloud Nine and A Number, adapted A Dream Play for modern audiences. It's her version that opens tonight and runs through June 29 in a Jobsite Theater staging, directed by Chris Holcom, at the Shimberg Playhouse of Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Kari Goetz, pictured here, plays Agnes, daughter of the gods, who visits Earth. $24.50. (813) 229-7827; jobsitetheater.org.
