Billy Elliot, The Musical has 15 Tony Award nominations, tying the record set by The Producers in 2001. Billy's chief rival is the small-scale musical Next to Normal, which received 11 nominations. Hair (eight nominations) and West Side Story (four) are the front-runners for the musical revival Tony. Among plays, the British imports of revivals Mary Stuart and The Norman Conquests have seven nominations each, while the new play God of Carnage picked up six. Jane Fonda is a nominee for her performance as a dying Beethoven scholar in 33 Variations.
