Meghann J. Snow will perform The Idea of Being Present.

Performance art mixed with modern dance opens the 2010-11 dance series at Hillsborough County Community College in Ybor City. Amanda Szeglowski, a Tampa native now living in New York, brings her company Cakeface back home to perform vice (with mary kate), which she describes as "inspired by grating encounters with 'preachy vegans.' '' She adds that "the work delves into the behaviors we adopt despite knowledge of their negative implications, including but not limited to ruthless carnivorous indulgences.''

Also on the program is Brooklyn resident Meghann J. Snow, whose work consists of painting, video and ballet. She'll present The Idea of Being Present, a new piece featuring HCC Ybor dance students, plus her Dance Drawing Series No. 4: Time to Get Personal.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday at the HCC-Ybor Performing Arts Building, E Palm Avenue and N 14th Street, Tampa. $5, $10.
