The musical Chicago was the big winner in the Main Stage division of the annual Stage West Community Playhouse HAMI Awards competition announced Saturday at the Palace Grand in Spring Hill. Of the 17 awards given in that division, Chicago won nine, including Favorite Show.
The big winner in the Forum division was the drama Proof, which garnered eight out of nine awards in that division, according to the list of winners provided to the Times.
Other winners in the Main Stage Division were the Tennessee Williams drama A Streetcar Named Desire and the comedy/farce Lend Me a Tenor, with three each. The musical The Music Man and the comedy Barefoot in the Park each won a single HAMI.
The musical comedy Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks won a HAMI for choreography (it was the only musical in the season), and the drama Doubt was a shutout.
In addition to the Main Stage and Forum awards, HAMIs were given to the musical comedy Thoroughly Modern Millie for the 2011 Summer Season and to rising stars Matthew Romeo and Stephanie Cooper in the youth category.
