Christmas comes early at Gorilla Theatre. In the premiere of Christmas Stopping by James Rayfield, a psychiatrist named Grant Taylor has written a book "that will change your life,'' Christmas: Silent Night or Silent Killer?, which urges readers to ban Christmas from their lives. But that's not so simple, as Taylor finds from the reaction of his own family.

Rayfield is a former theater teacher at Blake, Chamberlain and Brandon high schools, and he is artistic director of Gorilla's Young Dramatists' Project. The cast for Christmas Stopping includes Chris Jackson, Lauren Allison, Jessica Alexander and Alvin Jenkins.

The play opens tonight and runs through Dec. 12 at Gorilla, 4419 N Hubert Ave., Tampa. Shows are at 7 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. $10-$25. During Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 25-28, you may pay regular price or bring a food item to donate and pay what you can. (813) 879-2914; gorillatheatre.com.
