Florida Dance Theatre is a company from Lakeland that isn't seen very often in the bay area. The last time it was here was 2005, when it gave an impressive performance at a gathering of dance educators.
Now the company is back to present Innovations Dance, an evening of contemporary dance on the campus of Hillsborough Community College in Ybor City.
Works on the program include Fallen Angel, choreographed by artistic director Carol Erkes, with original music by Leonard Levash. Red Moon, a piece by associate director Ferdinand De Jesus, was "inspired by the idea that when inhabitants of Earth see a lunar eclipse, astronauts on the moon would be bathed in red light and experience a solar eclipse," according to a news release.
FDT will also dance Snow & Roses by Earl Mosely, plus works by company members Stefan Dolbashian and Abraham Jarrell.
The performance is at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Mainstage Theatre of the HCC Performing Arts Building, E Palm Avenue and N 14th Street, Tampa. $10, $15. (863) 802-0399.
