Florida Orchestra adds music to mall
How about some Beethoven with the jambalaya pasta from the Cheesecake Factory? A string quartet, solo violinist Oleg Geyer and a steel drum group — all from the Florida Orchestra — will be playing from 6 to 9 p.m. today at three different locations in International Plaza and Bay Street in Tampa. The performances kick off a yearlong marketing partnership between the orchestra and the shopping center, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Also on view are oversize photographs of the orchestra's principal musicians in the St. Petersburg Times' Gallery Hallway on the lower level of International Plaza. Throughout the season, the mall will be offering free tickets to orchestra concerts as part of its gift-with-purchase incentive program. The concierge desk will sell masterworks and pops concert tickets. "We're psyched," said Sherry Powell, marketing director with the orchestra. "This is something we've been working on for a couple of years. It's great to see it finally happening." Information: shopinternationalplaza.com/fno.
