The Florida Orchestra swings into holiday high gear this week. Guest pops conductor Jeff Tyzik comes to town with a sleigh full of jazzy arrangements of seasonal standbys for the orchestra and Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, from Winter Wonderland to the Wexford Carol to a gospel Hallelujah chorus. Concerts are at 8 p.m. Friday at Morsani Hall of the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa; 8 p.m. Saturday at Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg; and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater. $20-$67, students $10.
Next week the Irish-American group Cherish the Ladies joins the orchestra for an evening of Celtic music and dance, featuring numbers from its popular album On Christmas Night, such as Henry McDermott Roe/The Holly and The Berry and Ding Dong Merrily on High/The Cat's Meow. Robert Romanski conducts the performance at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mahaffey Theater. $25-$70, students $10.
