The Frank Parsons BIG Band has three concerts to go this season at Richey Suncoast Theatre, but band leader Parsons has already lined up next season's shows and the tickets have gone on sale.
"These shows have gone over tremendously," said Charlie Skelton, president of the Richey Suncoast board. Most of this season's shows by the 17-piece orchestra have sold out, including the upcoming Wednesday performance, "You Heard It on Broadway," and many people have already bought season tickets for 2009-10, Skelton said.
"We started out with 50 people in the audience (in 2006), and now we have 323 (capacity) nearly every time," Skelton said.
The shows on April 15 and May 13 still have a few tickets for sale. As for next year, current season ticket holders have until April 15 to retain their current seats. After that, all seats will be released for sale, Skelton said.
Parsons chooses the numbers for each program, selecting songs from his collection of more than 4,000 arrangements.
Each show has a theme, and many feature a guest singer or musician. The orchestra is a mix of people who play for pleasure and professional musicians.
Besides Wednesday's show, the remaining performances are at 2 p.m. April 15, "Blue, Blues and Bluer (Tax Time)"; and 2 p.m. May 13, "BIG Band Heyday Classics."
