'Giselle' brings stars to Sarasota

Giselle is one of ballet's greatest hits, and Sarasota Ballet will feature a pair of stars from England's Royal Ballet in it this weekend. Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg will perform Peter Wright's choreography, directed by Margaret Barbieri, a former principal of the Royal Ballet and a notable Giselle herself. Cojocaru, pictured, and Kobborg have made guest appearances with the Bolshoi Ballet, La Scala Ballet, Vienna State Opera Ballet and other major companies. Sharing the roles in alternating performances will be Sarasota principals Victoria Hulland and Octavio Martin. Emil DeCou will conduct the orchestra. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Sarasota Opera House. $22-$77. (941) 351-8000 or toll-free 1-800-361-8388.
