One of the most anticipated productions of the season, the Florida Skating Academy's Holiday Roller Skating Show: Journey Around the World, will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at Spinnations Skating Center in Port Richey. The show features more than 60 skaters from age 4 to at least one 80-year-old in the "Golden Rollers" performing 20 skate-dance routines.
Director-choreographer is two-time Federal International Roller Skating dance champion Melissa Quinn.
The program will feature U.S. Senior World Pairs Team members Alex Poland and Mackenzie Wriedt of the Sarasota Artistic Skating Club; 12-time National Champion John Burchfield from Reflections in Kissimmee; U.S. World Team members Siobhan Boismier and Erica Sheley of the Florida Skating Academy; 2009 National Dance Champion Meghan Boyce from Orlando; Juvenile boys singles champion Alex Hinderscheid from Tampa; Elementary Pairs Champions Lorenzo and Francesca Bertoglio of Sarasota; and several skaters who placed in the world championship in Freiburg, Germany, in November, five of whom are on Team USA.
"We always invite the skaters who have placed" in that competition, said Angela Serini, publicist for the academy.
Skaters will perform to music that evokes countries around the world, Ms. Serini said. That includes Arabian Nights and A Whole New World from the musical movie Aladdin, Argentine Tango, New York, New York, Walk Like an Egyptian and the holiday hymn Ave Maria.
"We have limited seating," Ms. Serini said, and the show has sold out in past years, so advance purchase of tickets is strongly recommended. There is reserved seating for groups of 20 or more and a special area for wheelchairs.
The show is about two hours long.
