North Suncoast musical groups announce schedules, ticket sales for upcoming season

Even though the thermometer doesn't say so, Florida's "season" is nigh upon us, the time when summer vacationers have departed, snowbirds start to arrive, and performing arts groups launch their 2011-12 series of shows. Local theaters have already started their seasons: Lend Me a Tenor at Stage West Community Playhouse, Cabaret at Richey Suncoast Theatre and Steel Magnolias at Show Palace Dinner Theatre, with the musical Meet Me in St. Louis waiting in the wings, and now the major musical groups are announcing ticket sales for their lineups.

Tickets can be purchased starting Oct. 3 at the box office or ordered by mail now (send check with dates and number of tickets wanted, with self-addressed, stamped envelope to the box office; tickets will be mailed after Oct. 1).

3 p.m. Nov. 20: "The Gershwin Boys," the music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin (An American in Paris, The Man I Love, Strike Up the Band and others) featuring singers Michele James and David Pruyn. The concert is at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey. Tickets are $15, open seating.

1 p.m. Dec. 11: "Jingle All the Way," featuring Bella Voce Quartet, a close harmony group that sings in the style of Manhattan Transfer. Cash bar opens at 1 p.m.; dinner of roast beef or chicken and trimmings at 1:30 p.m.; show at 3 p.m. Dinner and show, $35, reserved seating at tables of 10, at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave., New Port Richey. Reservations required by 3 p.m. Dec. 7.

3 p.m. Feb. 12: "From Russia with Love," romantic music by Russian composers, featuring pianist Bobby Pace with the orchestra in Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, and music from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake with dancers from the Bay City Ballet Company under the direction of Mark Jelks. The concert/show is at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey. Tickets are $15, open seating.

3 p.m. March 18: "Celtic Celebration," featuring the Busch Gardens Irish tenor John Wilson singing Danny Boy and music from Brigadoon, Finian's Rainbow, Lord of the Dance and The Pennywhistle Jig. The concert is at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey. Tickets are $15, open seating.

3 p.m. April 15: "Salute to Ol' Blue Eyes," a tribute to crooner Frank Sinatra by Andy Stefano, doing signature songs My Way, New York, New York and more. The concert/show is at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey. Tickets are $15, open seating.

1 p.m. May 13: "Mother's Day Dinner Concert," featuring Neil Diamond impersonator Bobby Palermo, a veteran of the Legends in Concert in Las Vegas. The show is at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave., New Port Richey. Cash bar opens at 1 p.m., dinner of roast beef or chicken at 1:30 p.m., show at 3 p.m. Dinner and show, $35, reserved seating at tables of 10. Reservations required by 3 p.m. May 9.

Note: The two dinner shows are often sold out, so early purchase is recommended.

Hernando Symphony Orchestra

Holiday Concert — Sounds of the Season, featuring the Nature Coast Handbells directed by Michele DiLuzio. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at Springstead Theater, 3300 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill and at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at Hernando Performing Arts Center, 700 Bell Ave., Brooksville.

The Best of Broadway. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Hernando Performing Arts Center, 700 Bell Ave., Brooksville, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Springstead Theater, 3300 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill.

Classics for All Ages: Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at Hernando Performing Arts Center, 700 Bell Ave., Brooksville; and at 2 p.m. April 22 and 7:30 p.m. April 24 at Springstead Theater, 3300 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill.

In addition, the orchestra will perform Broadway favorites at 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8370 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. Guest performers are Leanne Germann, Dalton Benson, Morgan Burburan, Mitch Gonzalez and Ryan Bintz. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 students. Proceeds will go to Stage West. Call (352) 683-5113.

Thursday Musicale

A chorus of about 50 women who give monthly concerts October through April at The Living Word Church, 5151 Rowan Road, New Port Richey. The concerts are free, but a donation is requested to cover expenses and to provide scholarships to high school students with plans for advanced studies in music.

Each concert features a variety of music by members of the chorus, as well as by guest performers. Guest performers are:
