Find A Friend: Ranger the terrier

Dog days of August got you down? Let Ranger share the bright side. This 10-month-old, medium-sized mixed terrier was dumped — literally. But one man's trash is another's treasure. Found starving at 24 pounds, he's now a healthy 42. Ranger is bright, obedient and cheerful with other pets and people. Playful outside, calm indoors, a perfect pal. Adopt Ranger fully vaccinated, neutered and more by contacting Friends of Hillsborough County Animals at friendsofhcas.org.

PET EVENT: Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center, the County's animal shelter, will kick off First Saturday Celebrations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the center, 440 N Falkenburg Road in Tampa. The on-site series aims to save lives and boost community engagement by offering regular pet adoption specials and events on the first Saturday of each month. The inaugural First Saturday Celebration event will feature pet adoptions priced as low as $20 along with free kids' activities and food trucks, including the Rolling Gourmet and Big Bang Barbeque. For more information on pet adoption or First Saturday Celebrations, contact Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center at (813) 744-5660 or visit hillsboroughcounty.org/pets.
