The Golden Globes red carpet brought an interesting mix of casual super-glamour, with short-sleeved gowns, messy hair and minimalist makeup abounding. Who passed with flying cape colors? Who was better off working a desk job than a red carpet? Read and see.

Lupita Nyong'o in Ralph Lauren

Why did Lupita wear a cape? Because she has superhero brains, superhero personality, superhero acting skills, superhero looks, and superhero ability to wear a cape without looking too literally like a superhero. She saved the day.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

With many stars sporting minimal makeup, Jennifer's bold oxblood lip was a welcome departure. But her dress had the unfortunate silhouette of a Velcro pull-up bathrobe one wears to walk past one's roommates on the way out of the shower.

Kerry Washington in Balenciaga

Kerry did the opposite of hiding her baby bump on the red carpet. She wrapped it in a silver satin package and framed it with a set of coordinating stage drapes, as if to say, "World, Olivia Pope is about to spawn. Prepare the way."

Lena Dunham in Zac Posen

The fit on Lena's bodice may not have been perfect, but the lemony yellow really stood out among a sea of reds, blacks and grays. "None of this is quite right on me," she told Ryan Seacrest. We disagree. Confidence looks good on everyone!

Julia Roberts in Dolce & Gabbana

Julia's Dockers wrinkle-free casuals thing is what happens when you're wearing something kind of risque, but lose your nerve and run back in the house to get the same crusty jacket you wear over everything. When you're Julia Roberts, that is not something you ever need to do.

What about bob?

Forget shellacked updos or beauty pageant curls. The hairstyle of the moment was a messy, angular bob, just short enough to look chic yet still fall out of a ponytail holder every time you go to the gym.
