The Syfy channel hit the schlocky mother lode Thursday night, airing Sharknado and making Twitter's head explode.
As it was trending worldwide even celebrities were tweeting, such as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Wil Wheaton alerting his 2.3 million followers: "WE HAVE SHARKNADO. I REPEAT WE HAVE SHARKNADO THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
Lost scribe Damon Lindelof joked, "I am going to write the Sharknado sequel and I am going to do it before Sharknado is over." Comedian Patton Oswalt tweeted, "No way is Sharknado as entertaining as the Tweets about it. Congrats, @SyfyTV. You've created a new way to watch movies."
Indeed, the instant camp classic was almost more fun to watch on Twitter than on TV.
No one will confuse it with Citizen Kane. The story follows Fin Shepard (yes, the hero of Sharknado is named Fin. 'Nuff said) and friends as they fight to save the Santa Monica coast from shark-infested tornados that are mutilating the city.
After the success, Syfy announced it would do an encore showing Thursday at 7 p.m. That means you, too, can see a great white shark swallowing a chainsaw, in midair, with 90210's Ian Ziering still holding onto it. Yes, that happened.
