Amy Winehouse was preparing to adopt a 10-year-old girl from St. Lucia before she died, according to a report in the U.K.'s Mirror. The singer had apparently started the process with lawyers before she died of unknown causes July 23. "Amy was already my mother," 10-year-old Dannika Augustine told the tabloid. "I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me, and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me." Winehouse met the girl while on a trip to the Caribbean island in 2009, after getting to know Marjorie Lambert, her 57-year-old grandmother. Lambert ran a beach bar next to the Cotton Bay Village Resort, where Amy spent most of the past three years in a $3,000 per night villa. Dannika was not an orphan, the paper reports, but her 31-year-old mother, Nadia Germaine, was so poor she was willing to let Winehouse adopt her little girl to help Dannika's chances in life. It's suspicious that all the people the Mirror interviewed are related to the girl, so we call shenanigans. In fact, her rep told X17 the story exactly that: "It's not true. I think (Amy) might have met her in St. Lucia, but she was in no way about to adopt her."
Fantasia expecting No. 2
It's been nine years since American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino gave birth to daughter Zion, so it's about time to give her a sibling, don't you think? Good news, then, because she announced in Jacksonville Sunday that she's expecting. "You are the first persons that I share this news with," Barrino said at a charity concert at the opening of Riverview Apartments, according to TheYBF.com and People. "And I share this with you because I can relate to you. And for a while, I walked around figuring out what they will say and what will they think about me. But now I tell you, I don't live my life for folk. This child that I carry — God has given me this child, and I don't have to hide it from none of y'all." Who's the daddy? Chances are it's off-again, on-again boyfriend Antwuan Cook, with whom she was seen vacationing in Barbados last month (it was those bikini pics that led to speculation she was with child, too).
Pacino's daughter faces DWI
Al Pacino's 21-year-old daughter Julie was arrested in Manhattan for driving drunk and stoned early Saturday. Cops stopped Julie's 2009 Benz at a checkpoint about 1:20 a.m. because her California tag had expired. She was slurring and had bloodshot eyes, and admitted drinking and smoking marijuana. "Yes, I was drinking," she told police, the New York Daily News reports. "I had about three beers and I smoked weed at home. That was a few hours ago." Her BAC was 0.12, over the 0.08 legal limit, prosecutors said. There was no word on her male passenger, but she was charged with DWI, and driving while impaired by the combined influence of drugs and alcohol, the Daily News says. She was released without bail Saturday and had her license suspended. Somehow we think having her dad yell at her would be way more intense than any other punishment.
