Disney to stay open 24 hours straight on Feb. 29

Disney fanatics, rest up. You'll need your energy on Feb. 29 when Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland celebrate Leap Year by keeping a theme park on each coast open for 24 hours straight.

It's the first time that the Magic Kingdom here and Disneyland in California have ever stayed open for 24 consecutive hours, according to a news release announcing the promotion, which is called "One More Disney Day." Set your alarms, because guests can enjoy the attractions and rides from 6 a.m. Feb. 29 to 6 a.m. March 1 local time.

A disclaimer on the release says that only select attractions, entertainment and services will be available for 24 hours and are subject to capacity restrictions. Valid theme park admission required. (See info box below for more details.)

In addition to the extra time, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California are also offering an additional day and night free when guests buy a three-night/three-day non-discounted Walt Disney Travel Co. room and ticket package at select Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort hotels. The package offer is good for arrivals most nights Feb. 26–March 10 and must be booked by Jan. 31.

Guests can find out more information about other Disneyland Resort offers and tickets at disneyland.com and other Walt Disney World Resort hotel and ticket offers at disneyworld.com. Guests can find out more information about "One More Disney Day" at OneMoreDisneyDay.com.

Here are the highlights:

* Special welcome ceremony at 5:50 a.m on Feb. 29.

* Disney’s Dance the Night Away Party at Cinderella Castle, from 1 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.

* Main Street Electrical Parade, at 10 p.m. and midnight

* "The Magic, The Memories and You!" at 7:45 p.m., 9 p.m., 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (March 1)

*Frontierland Hoedown at 2:45 a.m., 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.

Not all of the rides and attractions at the Magic Kingdom will be open for the entire time because of nightly maintenance. Buzz Lightyear, for example, will be closed from 1:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.am.

Commemorative merchandise from the special extra day will be available at the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A. Special embroidered ear hats will be available for purchase at The Chapeau and Curtain Call Collectibles on Main Street, U.S.A. and at Sir Mickey’s in Fantasyland.
