On the Camino de Santiago, Day 20: 'This is Camino' sums up pretty much anything and everything when you take this journey

Day 20: Puente Villarente to León: 12 km, 3 hours. Total for Days 1-20 = 465 km (289 miles)

Fields of sunflowers. Losing your way and finding a friend. Pain in your knee.

"This is Camino."

A meal far more expensive than expected. An albergue as beautiful as a resort. Being trusted with someone's most deeply personal stories.

"This is Camino."

Finding a table of bananas and drinks in the middle of nowhere when you need it most. An anonymous gift of sweets on your bed. Giving water to someone in need. Walking two hours for your first meal.

"This is Camino."

Walking 5K without water. Busing to the next town. Waking up twelve times a night every night. Ending your walk three weeks early.

"This is Camino."

Discussions of blister care over wine. Mysterious rashes in places you cannot see. Finding common ground with your polar opposite. An offer from a friend to carry your pack. Washing your dirty clothes with a stranger.

"This is Camino."
