Allyn Gallup Contemporary Art

1419 Fifth St., Sarasota

allyngallup.com or (941) 3662903

>> Like Clayton Galleries, Allyn Gallup organizes temporary shows by other artists as well as representing a group of artists continuously. For late summer, he exhibits new work by some of them, including Chris Metze. Gallup also draws from far afield, with Florida artists as well as some living in other parts of the United States. Due to the economy, Gallup has emphasized pricing, something I can't recall being done before, even calling a previous show "Affordable Art." For "Mark Making," he tries to have a variety of price points, wanting people to know that collecting original art is within most people's reach. Through Sept. 26.

Clayton Galleries

4105 S MacDill Ave., Tampa

claytongalleries.net

>> Owner Cathy Clayton has a full schedule of special exhibitions planned for fall but the current show wraps up her summer practice of rotating the group gallery artists she represents all the time. She always has a mix of perennial favorites and new discoveries. Most are painters such as Bruce Marsh, whose River Light is shown. Through Sept. 19.

Ringling College of Art and Design

2700 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota

dabbertgallery.com or (941) 955-1315

>> Another one-person show, this one from a longtime favorite of bay area collectors, is curated by Mark Ormond, a fellow area arts veteran. It's in the Patricia Thompson Gallery in the college's Keating Center on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Old Bradenton Road. The works by Rubadoux go back to 1969 and into the present and you'll see a fun evolution of his art to this present fantastical lyricism, in A Fine Catch, for example. Through Sept. 28. Note that contact information is at the Dabbert Gallery, not the college, which represents the artist.

Scarfone/Hartley Gallery

University of Tampa

310 N Boulevard, Tampa

(813) 253-6217

>> Graduates of UT who are now practicing professional artists shine in this show. Eighty works include paintings, sculpture, ceramics, digital art, drawings, mixed media, photography and installations such as The Delusion of Reprieve by Mike Massaro, shown. Through Sept. 10.

Art galleries are giving us some fine fall offerings in original art. Here's a roundup of a few.

C. Emerson Fine Arts

909 Central Ave., St. Petersburg

c-emersonfinearts.com or (727) 898-6068

>> Mrgan's art is an intriguing combination of an old craft medium, woodburning, and a contemporary sensibility. His art never seems to look like or remind one of anyone else's. Case in point: Fever He has been seen a lot in group shows; this one-person turn will provide more depth. Free opening reception Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight. Show continues through Sept. 26.
