Artist's encaustic painting exhibit at Nuance Galleries helps Trust for Public Land

See new encaustic paintings by Leslie Neumann now at Nuance Galleries, 2924 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Encaustic is a gorgeous and fussy medium which uses hot wax mixed with pigment that creates a luminous effect. She uses that effect in her landscapes, both earth-bound (shown here) and open-sky, to produce mysterious vistas engraved with pictographs and markings. Neumann also layers the wax, then scrapes through the layers for further visual interest.

Neumann is more than an award-winning artist. She's also a well-known environmentalist who has fought long and hard to protect and preserve the wetlands of the Gulf Coast, especially those surrounding Aripeka, where she lives. As part of her commitment, a portion of sales will benefit the Trust for Public Land. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. nuancegalleries.com or (727) 209-2125.
