To all the reasons for visiting downtown St. Petersburg this weekend, add two more: Florida Craftsmen's annual CraftArt and, new this year, ArtScape.
CraftArt, in its fourth year, fills a block of street space outside the Florida Craftsmen Gallery at 501 Central Ave. with a great representation of 130 fine craftsmen.
With ArtScape, two additional blocks surrounding Florida Craftsmen will be closed along Central Avenue with about 100 more artists added to the mix.
They are complementary events. ArtScape's focus is fine arts: painting and sculpture, for example, not ceramics, jewelry or the fiber art you find at CraftArt.
They're complimentary, too (free!), though the hope is you will support the artists and purchase uniquely and creatively. Do you need more incentive than these cool rings by jewelry designer Aaron Sault at CraftArt, for example?
Both events are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will be lots of restaurants and cafes open and parking on nearby streets and avenues. At Florida Craftsmen, enjoy demonstrations, hands-on activities and a craft beer tasting by Cigar City Brewing. And, in a sign of the times, food trucks are expected.
