Ashley Bryan's illustrations, puppets on display at Dunedin Fine Art Center

Ashley Bryan is a distinguished artist and writer, most notably of children's books, which he first began publishing in 1962 when he was 40. He has received a bookcase full of awards and honors over the years. Now the retired Dartmouth emeritus professor of art also has more time to make the delightful puppets, made from materials found along the Maine shoreline where he now lives, that are another source of his creativity. An exhibition of his illustrations and puppets (one is shown) is at Dunedin Fine Art Center, 1143 Michigan Ave., through Oct. 17. (727) 298-3322; dfac.org. — Image from Dunedin Fine Art Center
