Georgia O'Keeffe expert to speak in St. Petersburg

Local lovers of Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings — they are legion — have a rare opportunity to hear the authority on the artist. Barbara Buhler Lynes, curator of the Georgia O'Keefe Museum in Santa Fe, N.M., will be at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg on Thursday for a free lecture about the artist. Lynes, also a leading expert on American modernism, is an award-winning author of several books about O'Keeffe who has curated major traveling exhibitions.

The lecture will focus on O'Keeffe paintings in the museum's collection, especially its newest one, Grey Hills Painted Red, New Mexico (1930), shown.

This is part of an ongoing series of lectures by arts experts sponsored by Northern Trust that had not been open to the public. Now they are. The lecture is at 6:30 p.m. and will last about an hour. No reservations required. Free. (727) 896-2667 or Lennie Bennett, Times art critic
